For our Winter 17 Collection, Mad About Mini had the privilege of collaborating with one of Australia's up-and-coming artists, Carla Hananiah (pictured above with her daughter Juliet), who has been the recipient of several prestigious awards and has showcased her work in regular exhibitions since 2009. Carla has an incredible talent for capturing all that is breathtaking and majestic about nature and kindly worked with us in creating a watercolour used exclusively for our winter range.
Kat and Carla have been friends since they were in their early teens. Fast-forward a decade later they re-connected at a play date with their mini’s and talked about the idea of collaborating. They started talking about what would be a fresh new innovative design for Mad About Mini’s Winter 17 range and discussed Carla’s watercolour works and loved the idea of having watery textures and the alchemy of paint replicated onto fabric and ultimately clothing.
Carla painted watercolour piece “mountains” which is based on a mountainous area encountered on one of Carla’s landscape research trips to the South Island of NZ. This painting was then translated, and digitally printed onto two different organic cotton base cloths and thoughtfully designed into a 5-piece range. All those years ago they never would have imagined that their creativity would collide all these years later in the form of an exciting collaboration.
